OxyBand Technologies Signs Army Contract

“OxyBand Technologies Signs Army Contract”

San Francisco, CA – May 8, 2008

OxyBand Technologies, Inc. today announced that it has signed a contract with the United States Army to evaluate the company’s patented cutting edge wound healing technology for battlefield and other military wounds. OxyBand Technologies has developed a proprietary wound dressing that delivers pure oxygen gas into wounds for faster healing. The OxyBand dressing has been shown in clinical trials to accelerate healing, and in laboratory testing to reduce bacteria for infection. The OxyBand Wound Dressing has received FDA 510(k) clearance for both prescription (Rx) and Over the Counter (OTC) marketing.

“This initial contract with the Army establishes a great position for OxyBand to further demonstrate the OxyBand wound healing prowess and moves us closer to our goal of providing a real benefit to the men and women defending our county,” said Dr. Amie Franklin, CEO of OxyBand Technologies.
OxyBand Technologies has developed a proprietary technology for packaging pure oxygen into a discrete wound dressing using directionally permeable gas-emitting reservoirs. The resulting dressing has been shown in randomized controlled double blind trials to significantly accelerate wound healing, reduce inflammation, redness and pain through the direct and sustained application of pure oxygen over several days.

Funding under this new Army contract is for an evaluation of OxyBand dressings for accelerated healing of battlefield and other wounds, which is of concern to the U.S. military. OxyBand anticipates beginning work under the contract with the United States Army Medical Research and Material Command (USAMRMC) immediately. The clinical study evaluating OxyBand Dressings will be conducted at the United States Army Institute for Surgical Research, (USAISR) which is a part of the USAMRMC and is collocated with Brooke Army Medical Center. “As part of our overall program to improve the care given to wounded military service members, we are looking forward to continuing to work with OxyBand in order to determine the effect of their innovative dressing on wound healing in burn patients. We see great potential in this approach for delivering oxygen directly to wounds and are hopeful that it will have broad applicability in acute wound care” said, Dr David Baer, the Director for the Office of Research for the US Army Institute of Surgical Research, Program Area Manager for Bone and Soft Tissue Trauma Research, DTO Manager for Defense Technology Objective MD.30 (Battlefield Treatment of Fractures and Soft Tissue Trauma Care), STO Manager for Science and Technology for both Objective S and F (Soft Tissue Trauma Care) and Battlefield Treatment of Fractures), an Affiliate member of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA.

The USAISR mission is to provide requirements-driven combat casualty care medical solutions and products for injured soldiers, from self-aid through definitive care across the full spectrum of military operations; provide state-of-the-art trauma, burn, and critical care to Department of Defense eficiaries around the world and civilians; and provide Burn Special Medical Augmentation Response Teams.

“We are proud to be working with the USAMRMC and the USAISR,” added Dr. Franklin. “We are confident OxyBand Dressings can provide a needed solution for accelerating healing of battlefield and other wounds and we look forward to helping the men and women serving in the military.”
